What would the world do without me?

Okay… no big explosion, the universe imploding and disappearing into thin…. Air? No, actually none of that because although my ego persuades me of something more grand… in all reality, I’m only as important as the person who loves and knows me the best!!

Anywho… I do know one thing that would be totally deficient without me… a parking lot in Providence. You see… every week, for 4 ½ hours I work for my father’s business. He owns a landscaping business that just happens to hold a contract with a facility maintenance company. The bottom line is this – I pick up other people’s trash off the parking lot tar and get paid to do it. When I think I’m above the job…. He will usually calm me down by saying four words: “dirty job, clean money”. Aha, yes… logically sound but does it really satisfy my delusions of grandeur?

From Wednesday to Wednesday every week, people come to the bank parking lot that I clean and leave various things, there are usually a few that are consistent:

  1. Dirty Baby Diaper
  2. Bank Receipts
  3. Bag of McDonalds
  4. Beer Bottles

I realized that if I didn’t go there every week to clean this crap up, it would PILE UP! Pretty soon, you wouldn’t even be able to talk into the bank. You could even drive through the “drive-thru” ATM! People would not be able to get money out to pay bills! The world would eventually come to an end!!!!!!!! Or maybe not, but hey, “dirty job, clean money”, Greg gets to fill his gas tank at the end of the week.

Where would the world be without you? Something to ponder…

Peace.

Hmmm... Well, for one, the communal porch would still be home to large pots of dirt and cigarette butts! :P

I'm a litter-picker-upper, and I think my neighbors are finally getting used to seeing me picking stuff out of the grass on my way to the trash can.

And that's a "superficial" one. I could get into my work, and the list would grow exponentially... And I know that's true for you, too, which is really cool!

Sarah - Thanks for sharing! It is healthy to be recognized for the good deeds you do in your community... and I couldn't be more excited that you're actually picking trash up and not throwing it down.. less work for those in my position to do ;)

You are certainly right, we all have facets of our personal and professional lives that are so influential to the environment around us... and in that respect, you've totally pinpointed my discussion on meaning - there is much meaning to our lives when we notice and acknowledge the lives we touch :)

Peace.
