By and By the Waters Come

Hello hello,
So sorry to keep everyone waiting on the wanderer, but my mind has been elsewhere lately with leaving the "old job" and settling in... but, the wait is over. Today, I stopped by my favorite place in my hometown - Colt State Park. Many times I have gone to the ocean to "recharge" and today I took a "mental snap shot" of the scene, so that I could come back and write about it later. I apologize for the bad format of the poem, but I had to move some lines around in order for there to be SOME flow given the limitations of space on the page. Enjoy my new stuff:

By and By, the Waters Come

Standing still on the shadowy water
Mist thickens and rests
Calm, waiting, the seagull pause and stair,
motionless on the lonely dock
One figure, gray and black comes to remember
And stays a while.

The misty spray comes not from the patient ocean,
but from the sulky sky above
His contemplation undisturbed, caught in this moment of peace
He is home.

Where is the warmth of the blazing sun,
trapped behind the dark clouds
Wanting and wishing to shine through to the hopeful, salty tides
Not now, there is something to be seen here
The things that cannot be created nor destroyed, they speak

Have you been gone long they ask, time does not exist
Here in the murky waters of the bay we are whole, we are forever
What have you seen and done,
and now to come back to these cold rocks,
the snow slowly melting from the wintery storm already past

Looking out at the distant buoy bobbing to and fro,
faint warning bells ringing
straining to make out their fading shape
he spoke, in a most somber voice
as to not break the fog that had poured around his silhouette

Over and under, far and wide,
many things have my eyes looked upon
My heart felt, my hands touched,
my senses invigorated, burnt out, alive again
I am not eternal like the spirit that dwells in you... Dear Ocean
I am finite, I am fragile
but I am home.

Hey its Bill,

I got your email so I thought I would drop by and check out your Blog.

I admit that Poetry is not usually my thing, too cerebral I guess, but I like this one.

From one guy that has spent a long time away from home to another this one has special meaning.
