What's Tom saying to Society?

Although I was raised to see marriage as holy and sacred, I am open to the many situations where extreme unhappiness/abuse/infidelity can validate divorce. These things would be detrimental to the whole family, including kids, so separation and eventual divorce can be a healthy move. Of course, as a psych major, I've studied family dynamics and how "family" has been redefined many times in recent years. I'm also open to accepting and respecting the step-family, gay marriages (and families), etc.I'm watching an interview with Tom Cruise (one of a few that I've come across) and it baffles me. I don't know Tom, I never will, but he represents "the perfect guy" to millions of people. I once looked at him that way, off screen he seems like a great person (obviously this may not be the reality of who he is, just who he presents himself to be). I have issue with him talking about Katie Holmes and saying she's the most amazing women he's ever met, blah blah, I feel something with her that I've never felt before, blah blah..
Where's Nicole Kidman in all this? Wasn't she the women that he loved, that he married, that he had children with... is she just non-existent now? Doesn't his kids watch these interviews and wonder what love is if Daddy obviously broadcasts to the world his TRUE love for Katie? It makes me upset because his behavior doesn't just affect his life but makes a statement about marriage. Sure he's entitled to be happy, just like we all are, but I think people in these celebrity positions need to realize the impact and influence they have on society as a whole. If you're not a critical thinker and you accept a large portion of what the media tells you, watching Tom fall in love (for real this time) may influence teenagers and even adult men. The whole thing just deteriorates the concept of marriage.
